S-series trumpets
The S series, designed by Scott Laskey, were brought to the market in 1983 and are a bit heavier than the B-series. They feel more like a Bach Stradivarius which was no coincidence.
The S-series has an extra brace in the tuningslide and the tuningslide bow is less round to add seome resistance. all S-series trumpets share the same ML-bell, which is not the same ML-bell as on the B-series trumpets however.

Options
Tunable bell:
All Schilke trumpets are available with a tunable bell. The advantage of this system is that you can leave the tuningslide all the way in, which gives the horn a more open feel. And you can change the sound completely by putting on another bell.
The disadvantage is that the instrument is more vulnerable because it has no proper braces between bell and leadpipe and, despite what Schilke wants us to believe, you can get in trouble with the intonation of the instrument.
Beryllium bronze bell:
A beryllium bronze bell has a fast response, great projection and sounds a bit darker than a brass bell. They are very vulnerable because they are very, very lightweight so you have to be careful using mutes and stands. They are not for everyone, a lot of players choose the brass bell over the beryllium. And don't worry about the name. Although beryllium is extremely toxic, the bell is made of pure copper. There used to be traces of beryllium in it when they experimented with the bells back in the old days, but they only kept the name because it sounded good.
Sterling silver bell:
A bell made of pure silver, electroplated to a mandrell so there is no seam at all. A silver bell produces a lot of overtones and sounds really lovely. The bells are very responsive but not as much as the beryllium bell. You can use it in any type of music, and are available upon request in all sizes.
Schilke trumpets are still one of the best horns on the market today !!!
