Turbo-bore

Every brassplayer knows this problem: your sound is to thin and not powerfull enough; furthermore you feel more (?) and resistance while playing fortissimo and so you are not able to get away all the air.

Conclusion:

Your instrument does not sound how you want it to and so you start experiments. A different mouthpiece, a bigger bore, another leadpipe and finally ..... you have a totally different instrument but still the same problems, and so .... the same procedure starts again.

But what happens there – physically ?
That is quite easy: the air, which you are playing into your instrument is superfluously, because the blow, or better toneproduction which happens through the swing of your lips – produces a standig wave, which oscilloses axially. This means, that the air swings on a certain frequency forwards and backwards and so produces a vibrationnode and vibrationantinode, which prevent a controlled airstream. If there was a possibility to make your lips swing, the breathing air would be unnecessary. Of course it is impossible to change the brassplayer or to turn around the physical laws, the only thing we can try is either to bypass them, or to use them for our advantage.

The help of a waterfilled bottle makes it possible to demonstrate the proceedings, which happen inside a brassinstrument. If you turn the full bottle around very aprouptely, the water streams out very hardly and in intervalls. Look at the thin jet of water.
But if you put the bottle under rotation, it comes to a suction, which makes the water streaming out much faster, controlled and regularly.
The velocity of the water becomes faster and consequently the bollte implies much quicker and in a definetly reproductable time. The whole process becomes more controllable.
As you can see in picture 2 the stream is much stronger and is still twisted, when it is already out of the bottle.

Of course you can not transfere this principle one to one on a brassinstrument. But still the basic rule works, and this is why you can realise this principle on your instrument. The air rotation is produced by the twisted inner surface of the backbore inside the mouthpiece-shank.
The surface of the shank or the backbore is very similar to a gun barrel, the only difference is, that the barrel is cylindrical and not conical.

Because of the rotation the air jet streams around the standing wave inside the instrument, consequently the air can stream much quicker, controlled and constantely. Because of this fast airstream, you not are only able to play more air into your instrument, also the sound becomes better, brighter, more powerfull and rich of overtones. This means, that for procucing the same volume, you need much less air with the new Turbobore, than with an normal ordinary mouthpiece.

Furthermore you get a very pleasent feeling, while playing the new Turbobore, because every tone is easier and constantly to produce, because the air can stream out very regulary.

Unfortunately it is impossible to work the Turbobore-system in a mouthpiece afterwords. It is a very complex system for which a computercontrolled lathe-machine is needed, this is because of the non-cylindric, but conic shape.

To get a Turbobore you have various possibilities:

1.

The original-shank will be cut of and the cup gets a thread and so you simply screw on the Turbobore.

2.Or you can send your original mouthpiece and we will make an identic copy, added with Turbobore. With the help of the newest technical developments, we are able to make a totally identic copy of your mouthpiece
3.
You can chose one of our standardmouthpieces of the Turbobore series.
